Typusfundort: Río Nichare, bei Raudal La Raya, 1 Kilometer von der Mündung entfernt, 6°32'N, 64°49'W (Karte), Bolívar, Venezuela.
Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Francisco R. Provenzano für seine Beiträge zur Kenntnis der venezolanischen Welse und seine umfangreichen Bemühungen um das Studium der Fischfaunen von Aro und Caura, die zahlreiche Exemplare von Phenacorhamdia anisura und Phenacorhamdia provenzanoi hervorbrachten.
