Etymologie
Von phenax (= Falschspieler oder Betrüger); Rhamdia, eine verwandte Gattung, d. H. eine falsche Rhamdia, bezieht sich vermutlich auf die Ähnlichkeit mit dieser Gattung (obwohl Dahl erwähnt, dass sie mit Chasmocranus, Imparfinis und Pariolius verwandt ist, wenn auch nicht nahe verwandt).
