Etymologie
Die Art-Epitheton cabessadecuia bezieht sich auf "Cabeça de Cuia", ein legendäres Geschöpf, von dem gesagt wird, dass es am Rande des Rio Parnaíba im Piauí-Staat lebt, das nachts die Fischer angreifen würde. "Cuia" ist eine Hartschalen-Frucht einer Bignoniacea, die in ihrer Form an einen Kürbis erinnert, deren getrocknete Schale als Schüssel verwendet wird. Der Ausdruck "Kürbiskopf" bezieht sich auf einen großen Kopf.
Verbreitung
Parotocinclus cabessadecuia ist nur aus dem oberen und mittleren rio Parnaíba Becken bekannt. Abgesehen vom Hauptfluss wurden auch Einzelexemplare in den Nebenflüssen Gurgueia, Piauí-Canindé, Poti und Balsas gesammelt.
