Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Kenji Mochizuki, Chiba (Japan), für seine vielen Beiträge zur Kenntnis der acropomatiden Fische. Er war auch der erste, der Exemplare dieser Art aus dem Westpazifik aufzeichnete und sie dann als Synagrops spinosus vorstellte.
Verbreitung
Parascombrops mochizukii wurde zuerst von Mochizuki & Gultneh (1989) als Synagrops spinosus, von vor zentral Japan und im Südchinesischen Meer südöstlich von Hainan aufgesammelt. Leider konnten wir diese Exemplare nicht untersuchen. Die drei hier zitierten Exemplare stammen aus Taiwan, von etwa in der Mitte zwischen den beiden früheren Aufsammlungen. Sie wurden aus 100 bis 500 m Tiefe berichtet.
