Typusfundort: Muscat, Oman, Golf von Oman, Arabisches Meer, nordwestlicher Indischer Ozean.
Etymologie
Benannt nach der Stadt Muskat im Oman, wo sich die Typuslokalität befindet.
Verbreitung
Westlicher Indischer Ozean: KwaZulu-Natal (Südafrika), Ostafrika (Mosambik, Tansania, Kenia) und Persischer Golf bis Socotra (Jemen), Seychellen und Maskarenen (Mauritius).
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 14.04.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Opistognathus muscatensis ist von kommerzieller Bedeutung für den Aquarienfischhandel, was jedoch nicht als ernsthafte Bedrohung angesehen wird. Er wird nur gelegentlich gefangen und gilt nicht als durch Gewinnungstätigkeiten bedroht.
