Ophis (= Schlange); cara (= Kopf), bezogen auf große Schuppen und abgeflachter Kopf der Typusart Ophiocara ophicephalus (= Ophiocara porocephala), ähnlich dem von Schlangenköpfen (Anabantiformes: Channidae). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
