Typusfundort: Südwestlich von Corinto, Nicaragua, 12°09'N, 87°32'W (Karte), Tiefe 112 Meter.
Etymologie
Imitor (= imitieren, nachahmen oder ähneln), in Anlehnung an die "auffällige Ähnlichkeit" mit Lepophidium pardale und, in geringerem Maße, Otophidium indefatigabile. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Ostpazifik: Südspitze der Baja California Sur (Mexiko) südlich bis Panama.

Status: Stand 3.02.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
