Etymologie
Etymologie nicht erklärt, vielleicht von notos (= zurück), bezogen auf zahlreiche Stacheln auf dorsalen Oberfläche oder notos (= Süden), bezogen auf das Auftreten von Notoraja tobitukai in "südlichsten Regionen innerhalb der Meere die von den nördlichen Vertretern bewohnt werden" von Breviraja; raia, lateinisch für Rochen.
