Etymologie
Von bi (= zwei=; guttatus (= gefleckt), bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf einen roten Fleck auf jeder Seite des Kopfes bei balzaktiven Männchen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Nordamerika: Mohawk River-System in New York, USA, westlich durch die Great Lakes und das Mississippi-Becken bis zum Einzug des Red River (Hudson Bay-Becken) in Manitoba, Kanada und North Dakota, USA, und südlich bis zum Einzug des Ohio; Ozark-Einzugsgebiet in Missouri und Arkansas, USA. Isolierte Populationen im unteren Kentucky River-System in Kentucky, Platte- und Cheyenne-Systeme in Nebraska, Wyoming und Colorado sowie Kansas River in Kansas, USA.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 14.1.2020:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Lokale Bedrohungen mögen existieren, aber für das Gesamtverbreitungsgebiet sind keine größeren Bedrohungen bekannt.
