Etymologie

Ornithoptera ist eine Kombination aus den griechischen Wörtern ornith (= Vogel) und 'ptera (= Flügel), was auf die Form der Brustflosse hinweist, die an einen Vogelflügel erinnert.

Verbreitung

Südwestlicher Pazifik: derzeit bekannt von den Wallis- und Futuna-Inseln und Fidschi.
