Etymologie
Mega- (= groß); lepis (= Schuppe), bezieht sich auf die großen Schuppen, 25 bis 28+2 dicht stehend, entlang und über der Seitenlinie. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Südwestlicher Pazifik.
