Etymologie
Diese Untergattung ist nach ihrer Typusart (Callionymus margaretae) benannt, kombiniert mit dem griechischen Wort ichthys für Fische. Die Art Art wurde von F. W. Townsend gesammelt und wurde von Regan (1905) nach Frau Margaret Smith benannt, die "großes Interesse an [Mr. Townsends] sammeln hat".
