Etymologie
Erythros (= rot); pterus (= Flosse), bezieht sich auf die roten Flossen mit Ausnahme des Beckens und der Brustflossen, die rosafarben sind. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Persischer Golf, Golf von Oman und Chagos-Archipel im Osten bis zu den Philippinen und Samoa, im Norden bis zu den Ryukyu-Inseln (Japan) und Südjapan, im Süden bis Westaustralien, Queensland (Australien), Salomon-Inseln und Neukaledonien.

Status: Stand 22.08.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art wird in einigen Gebieten (z. B. Indonesien) stark befischt, und es besteht die Sorge, dass es zu einer Überfischung kommen könnte. Aufgrund ihrer langlebigen, langsam wachsenden Lebensweise ist sie möglicherweise anfälliger für Überfischung.
