Holotypus: BMNH 1867.11.28.310 (in schlechtem Zustand).
Typusfundort: Priaman, Indonesien.
Etymologie
Von poly (= viele); ophthalmos (= Auge), bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf Doppelreihe von gelben, runden Flecken auf Kopf und Nacken. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Diese Art ist aus Indonesien, Luzon auf den Philippinen, Japan und Nord-Taiwan bekannt.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 5.08.2018: LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Da diese Art bekannt dafür ist, in Flussmündungen und Flüsse einzudringen, ist sie möglicherweise anfällig für Süßwasserverschmutzung, was in ihrem Verbreitungsgebiet nicht ungewöhnlich ist.
