Typen

Holotypus: USNM V 23425A, B: fast vollständiges Exemplar in seitlicher Ansicht.
Typusfundort: Upper Triassic Chinle Formation of San Juan County, Utah (United States).

Etymologie

Benannt nach Gordon W. Weir, ein Geologe des United States Geological Survey, der die Geologie des San Juan County untersuchte. Er war einer der ersten, die das Vorkommen fossiler Fische im Lisbon Valley, San Juan County bekannt machte.
