Typusfundort: In der Nähe der Insel Binang Unang, Golf von Tomini, 0°04'00"S, 121°36'00"E (Karte), Sulawesi, Albatross-Station 5607, Tiefe 761 Faden.
Etymologie
Oblong (= länglich (etwas lang)), Anspielung nicht erklärt, bezieht sich vielleicht auf die Kopfform, "schmal, länglich, nicht scheibenförmig" wie bei den "typischen Dibranchus". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlichen Pazifik: vor Japan, Taiwan, Indonesien, Philippinen, Salomonen und Vanuatu. Bathymetrische Daten: Bereich 690-1886 m.

Status: Stand 11.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
