Etymologie
Ophio- (= Schlange); cephalus (= Kopf), Anspielung nicht erklärt, bezieht sich vielleicht auf die schlangenartigen Zykloidenschuppen am Kopf. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Gefahren für diese Art: Der Lebensraum der Art kann lokal beeinträchtigt sein, aber es sind keine weit verbreiteten Bedrohungen bekannt.
