Etymologie
-oides (= in der Form von:) gobius, oder Grundel, in Anlehnung an die Ähnlichkeit dieser neuseeländischen Art mit den "häufigsten Grundeln" an den europäischen Küsten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Status: Stand 10.05.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die kumulativen Auswirkungen der Erschließung von Wassereinzugsgebieten und der Verschmutzung stellen eine potenzielle Bedrohung für diese Art dar. Die Aufzeichnungen der New Zealand Freshwater Fish Database (NZFFD 2011) zeigen jedoch keinen rückläufigen Trend der Population, was darauf schließen lässt, dass diese Art relativ tolerant ist.
