Typusfundort: Puerto Toro; Lago Toaia, 55°24'S, 68°17'W (Karte), Feuerland, südwestlicher Atlantik; offenbar ein Irrläufer vor Grönland.
Etymologie
-oides (= mit der Form von:) Eleginops (Eleginopidae), d. h. mit der gleichen allgemeinen Form wie dieser. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Südostpazifik und Südwestatlantik: Südchile entlang der Küste bis Patagonien (Argentinien) und die Falklandinseln. Südwestpazifik: Macquarie-Insel. Südlicher Ozean: Südgeorgien. Auch von subantarktischen Inseln und Seebergen im indischen Sektor bekannt.
