Typusfundort: Akıncı Burnu (Iskenderun Bay, 36°19'30"N, 35°47'00"E (Karte)), 0,3 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Die Art ist nach Umut Tural benannt, einem vielversprechenden Naturschutzbiologen, der sich leidenschaftlich für das marine Leben interessierte und 2012 verstorben ist. Er war Koordinator des Kaş-Kekova Specially Protected Area Management Plan- und Umsetzungsprojekts im Auftrag des WWF-Türkiye, an dem er auch aktiv durch das Sammeln von Schildfischen teilnahm.
Verbreitung
Diplecogaster umutturali ist derzeit nur von drei einzelnen Stellen entlang der türkischen Levante Küste bekannt; Akıncı Burnu (Iskenderun Bay), Kaş und Fethiye Bay.
