Etymologie
Giton (= Nachbar), vermutlich in Anspielung auf eine enge Verwandtschaft mit Deuterodon taeniatus und Astyanax brevirhinus (damals ein mutmaßlicher Gattungsgenosse) aufgrund von Ähnlichkeit. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
