Etymologie
Leptos (= dünn); lepis (= Schuppe), bezieht sich auf seine "dünnen und leicht abgehenden" Schuppen.
Verbreitung
Weit verbreitet von den Kontinentalabhängen bis in die Tiefe (Hadal) der Weltmeere, von 640–7433 m.
