Etymologie
Cnido- (= Brennnessel), Anspielung nicht erklärt, vermutlich in Verbindung mit giftigen Rücken- und Brustflossenstacheln, die sehr schmerzhafte Wunden ähnlich denen einer Meernessel (Qualle aus der Gattung Chrysaora) verursachen; glanis (= Welse (Silurus glanis)), wird heute als Oberbegriff für Welse verwendet.
