Typusfundort: Südlich der Great Sole Bank, 48°34.3'N - 48°33.2'N, 10°10.3'W - 10°13.9'W (Karte), nordöstlicher Atlantik, Tiefe 103 Meter.
Etymologie
Opalescens (= opaleszierend), bezogen auf die charakteristische schillernde Färbung frischer Exemplare, die den perlmuttfarbenen Farben des Halbedelsteins Opal ähnelt. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Nordostatlantik:, am Abhang westlich der britischen Inseln und Frankreichs, Azoren.
