Etymologie
Von cheiros (= Hand); odon (= Zahn), bezieht sich auf die Zähne von Cheirodon pisciculus, die an der Zahnwurzelspitze mit mindestens fünf subkonischen Punkten erweitert sind, wobei der mittlere der längste ist und fünf Fingern auf einer Hand ähneln. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
