Typusfundort: Sepik River bei Nyaurangai, Neuguinea.
Etymologie
Nox (= Nacht), bezieht sich auf die schwarze Farbe oben und an den Seiten in Alkohol, und ganz schwarze Flossen außer den Ventralen.
Verbreitung
Papua-Neuguinea: unteres und mittleres Flusssystem des Sepik und des Ramu.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 4.09.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Invasive Arten wie der Javakarpfen (Barbonymus gonionotus) können eine Bedrohung für diese Art durch die Zerstörung ihres Lebensraums darstellen. Auch der Bergbau stellt eine potenziell erhebliche Bedrohung im Oberlauf des Ramu-Flusses dar und durch die geplante Gold- und Kupfermine am Frieda-Fluss im Oberlauf des Sepik-Flusses besteht eine weitere. Auch die Überfischung könnte eine Bedrohung darstellen, da die menschliche Bevölkerung in seinem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet zunimmt.
