Typusfundort: Chieng Mai, Nord-Thailand.
Etymologie
Sex (= sechs); maculata (= gefleckt), bezieht sich auf sechs schwärzlich-braune bis schwärzliche sattelartige Flecken auf dem Rücken. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Thailand: Ping- und Nan-Einzugsgebiete (Chao Phraya-Becken); Khwae Noi und Khwae Yai (Mae Klong Einzugsgebiet) und Pran Buri (Einzugsgebiet des Golfs von Thailand). Rainboth et al. (2012) berichteten über P. sexmaculata aus dem Nam Ngam in der Provinz Bokeo, Laos, aber dieses Exemplar ist ein laichreifer Pseudohomaloptera leonardi. Kottelat (2015) berichtete auch von P. sexmaculata (als Balitoropsis) aus Laos, aus dem unteren Xe Bangfai. Diese Identifizierung konnte nicht verifiziert werden, basiert aber wahrscheinlich ebenfalls auf Pseudohomaloptera leonardi.

Status: Stand 25.11.2022: DD Data Deficient (ungenügende Datengrundlage)
Gefahren für diese Art: In dem Gebiet finden Abholzung, Entwaldung und Landwirtschaft statt, was sich auch auf die aquatische Umwelt auswirkt.
