Etymologie
Brevis (= kurz); dorsalis (= Rückenflosse), bezieht sich auf eine kürzere Rückenflosse im Vergleich zu Aphyonus gelatinosus, seinem damals mutmaßlichen Verwandten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
