Typusfundort: Rio Maranhão, near mouth of the rio Tocantinzinho, border of Niquelândia and Campinaçu, 13°5'25"S, 48°19'08"W, Goiás State, Brazil.
Etymologie
Spinosissimus (= sehr dornig), bezieht sich auf zahlreiche hypertrophierte Odontoden (Hautzähnchen), die über die gesamte dorsolaterale Oberfläche von Rumpf und Flossen bei reifen Männchen verstreut sind. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Mittlerer und oberer Tocantins River und seine Nebenflüsse, unteres Amazonasbecken, Brasilien.
