Typusfundort: Vor Florida, U.S.A., 25°20'30 "N, 79°58'W (Karte), Albatross Station 2642, Tiefe 217 Faden (397 Meter).
Etymologie
Pedaliotus (= mit ruderähnlichen Flossen), bezieht sich vermutlich auf das vordere Drittel der Afterflosse, die "stark verlängert und faltig ist und dem unteren Teil der Flosse eine parabolische Kurve verleiht", die dem Ruder eines Schiffes ähnelt. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Östlicher Atlantik: Rockall-Trog, selten nördlich des Golfs von Cadiz, Spanien; Kanarische Inseln bis Golf von Guinea. Westatlantik: in tropischen Gewässern. Nordwestlicher Atlantik: Kanada. Indischer Ozean: in tropischen Gewässern.

Status: Stand 9.3.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
