Typusfundort: Golf von Guinea, vor Togo, 6°07'N, 13°50'E [sic!, das wäre im Inland von Kamerun] wahrscheinlich ca. [6°03'59.4"N 1°35'41.1"E (Karte)], Tiefe 34 m.
Etymologie
Macula (= gefleckt) mit Bezug auf sein fleckiges Farbmuster.
Verbreitung
Östlicher Atlantik: Golf von Guinea, von der Elfenbeinküste bis Gabun, mit zwei Nachweisen aus Angola, auf dem inneren Kontinentalschelf, von der Küste bis in etwa 30 m Tiefe, meist auf sandigem Grund.
