Etymologie

Oligos (= wenige); lepis (= Schuppen), mit weniger Querschuppenreihen (~20) im Vergleich zu 40 bei dem ähnlichen Uranoscopus asper (= Uranoscopus japonicus). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Japan [Indo-West-Pazifik: Saya de Malha Bank (westlicher Indischer Ozean) östlich bis Neuirland (Papua-Neuguinea), nördlich bis Taiwan, südlich bis Neukaledonien.].
