Typusfundort: Rotes Meer.
Etymologie
Arabischer Name für diesen Stachelrochen (in einigen Literaturen vor Linnaeus auch arnak geschrieben).
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer, Indo-West Pacifik: Ostafrika und Eastern Cape Provinz (Südafrika), Persischer Golf, Seychellen, Madagaskar und Mauritius (Maskarenen) östlich bis zu den Philippinen; Mittelmeer (als Einwanderer aus dem Roten Meer).
