Etymologie
Kamtambo bedeutet in der Sprache Chichewa (Nyanja) blau.
Verbreitung
Malawisee: Chimwalani (13°46.240'S, 34°57.770'E) und Luwala (13°45.975'S, 34°56.255'E), und eine sehr ähnliche Form wurde aus dem Gebiet zwischen der Grenze von Mosambik und Malaŵi und dem Nsinje-Fluss berichtet (Konings 2007), aber es waren keine Exemplare verfügbar, um ihre mögliche Artzugehörigkeit zu bestätigen.

Status: Stand 21.2.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die Sedimentation und das Sammeln als Zierfisch stellen eine potenzielle Bedrohung dar.
