Typusfundort: Fort de Kock [Bukittinggi], Sumatra, Indonesien.
Etymologie
Von gnathos (= Kiefer); pogon (= Bart), bezieht sich vermutlich auf ein Paar von Oberkiefer-Barteln. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Crossocheilus gnathopogon ist nur aus Bukittinggi (früher Fort de Kock), Sumatra, bekannt. Wie von Tan & Kottelat (2009) angemerkt, gibt es keine Daten, die aussagen, dass die Typserie im Mannindjan See in Bukittinggi gesammelt wurden, wie von Bănărescu (1986) berichtet wurde. Flüsse aus diesem Gebiet münden alle in den Indischen Ozean.
