Etymologie
Vom Gr. styrax (= Dorn am Ende eines Speers) und oura (= Schwanz), ein Anhängsel, das seit Müller & Henle (1837) für Peitschenschwanz-Stechrochen verwendet wird, in Bezug auf die stark gestreckten Schwanzstacheln.
