Etymologie
Der spezifische Name mercurius ist ein Name für die Schutzgottheit der Kaufleute, in Bezug auf die kommerzielle Bedeutung dieser Art in der südostasiatischen Fischerei.
Verbreitung
Westpazifik: von den Ryukyu-Inseln (Japan) bis Singapur, basierend auf untersuchten Exemplaren. Molekulare Hinweise deuten darauf hin, dass sich das Verbreitungsgebiet dieser Art auch auf Indien und Sri Lanka erstreckt.
