Benannt nach der Typuslokalität, Indien.
Verbreitung
Indopazifik: Rotes Meer und Südafrika, einschließlich Persischer Golf, Madagaskar und Mauritius nach Osten bis Hongkong, Arafura-Meer, Nord- und Ostküste Australiens und weiter östlich bis Samoa und Tahiti.

Status: Stand 7.03.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Eine lokale Überfischung ist jedoch möglich, da sie in ihrem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet häufig für den menschlichen Verzehr verwendet wird. Es wird angenommen, dass illegale, nicht regulierte und nicht gemeldete Fischerei diese Art in Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets negativ beeinflusst (z.B. auf den Philippinen).
