Typusfundort: Küsten Javas und naher Inseln des Lingga-Archipels, des Bawean und des Kangean-Archipels, Indonesien.
Etymologie
Insularis (= von Inseln), bezieht sich darauf, dass „sie vor allem in der Nähe von Inseln [von Lingga, Bawean und dem Kangean Archipel] in einiger Entfernung von der Küste“ von Java zu erscheinen scheint. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indopazifik: nördlicher Teil des Indischen Ozeans (Golf von Aden, nicht im Roten Meer [(?) wie soll sie dann ins Mittelmeer gelangt sein?] oder Persischen Golf, aber bis östlich von Burma) und westlicher Pazifik (Golf von Thailand, Java-Meer, auch Hongkong, Fujian und Taiwan), sofern richtig identifiziert erreicht sie Fiji und Samoa. Angeblich auch im Mittelmeer: Tel Aviv, Israel.
