Etymologie

Benannt nach Argus, dem mythischen hundertäugigen Wächter von Io, dessen Augen sich nach dem Tod in die Federn eines Pfaus verwandelten und sich auf Rücken und Seiten bezogen, „auf sehr schöne Weise mit ovalen schwarzen Flecken mit weißen Rändern besetzt“ (Richardson 1844). Südöstlicher Indischer Ozean, Südwestpazifik: Südwestaustralien, Südaustralien, Victoria, Tasmanien, Zentral- und Süd-New South Wales (endemisch in Südaustralien).
