Etymologie

Sphaero- (= Kugel), bezieht sich auf das "kugelförmige Profil" von Sphaeramia nematoptera; Amia, ein nichtbinomialer Name, der von Gronow (1763) auf Apogon angewandt wurde, heute ein häufig verwendetes Suffix in der Familie. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
