Etymologie
Acer (= scharf), d.h. scharfäugig, was sich auf seine besser entwickelten Augen im Vergleich zu seinen Verwandten bezieht, die damals in die Unterfamilie Amblyopinae gestellt wurden. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
