Etymologie

Verbreitung
Nordwestpazifik: Südchina, Taiwan, Ostchinesisches Meer, Korea und Südjapan (Kyushu bis ca. 38 ° N an beiden Küsten von Honshu). Gemeldete Exemplare aus Vietnam können Epinephelus fasciatomaculosus sein, und Aufzeichnungen aus den Philippinen und Indien sind unbegründet.

Status: Stand 18.01.2021:EN Endangered (stark gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Überfischung ist eine große Bedrohung für diese Art in ihrem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet. Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, dass ein signifikantes Maß an natürlicher genetischer Vielfalt verloren geht und die erste Geschlechtsreife in Alter und Größe verringert wird, wenn die Populationen in den meisten Bereichen stark reduziert sind. Die in der Region weit verbreitete Verschlechterung des küstennahen Lebensraums kann ebenfalls eine Bedrohung für diese Art darstellen.
