Etymologie
Benannt nach dem französische Naturforscher Philibert Commerçon (auch Commerson genannt, 1727-1773), dessen Aufzeichnungen und Illustrationen das Beschreibungsmaterial für Lacepède lieferten.
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer; Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Sokotra, Madagaskar, westliche Maskarenen und Persischer Golf, Indien, östlich bis zu den Philippinen und Neuirland (Papua-Neuguinea), nördlich bis zum südlichen Japanischen Meer, südlich bis Westaustralien, Sydney (New South Wales) und Neukaledonien.
