Etymologie
Kombiniert aus malacos (= weich) und acanthus (= Dorn), vermutlich bezogen auf den "sehr wenig verdickten" Rückenflossendorn bei größeren Exemplaren, bei denen die Zacken "mehr oder weniger verkümmert" sind. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
