Etymologie
Macro- (= groß); lepis (= Schuppe), bezieht sich auf die größeren Schuppen im Vergleich zum ähnlichen Saurida argyrophanes (= Saurida tumbil). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika und Persischer Golf östlich bis Golf von Thailand, nördlich bis Südkorea, zentrales Japanisches Meer (Japan) und Pazifikküste Südjapans. Frühere Nachweise aus dem Roten Meer und dem Mittelmeer basieren auf der Grundlage von Saurida lessepsianus.

Status: Stand 19.4.2024:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
