Etymologie
Abax (= Schachbrett), bezieht sich vermutlich darauf, dass jede Schuppe mit einem dunklen Rand versehen ist. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Nordwestlicher Pazifik: Südkorea und Japan.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 3.08.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Größere Bedrohungen für diese Art sind nicht bekannt; sie könnte jedoch aufgrund ihres Lebensraums in flachen Gewässern anfällig für eine Verschlechterung ihres Lebensraums infolge von Küstenentwicklung, Verschmutzung und den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels sein.
