Benannt nach dem Verbreitungsgebiet, der karnatischen Küste in Südindien.
Verbreitung
Südindien: Einzugsgebiet des Cauvery-Flusses, Kerala.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 23.6.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: B. carnaticus ist durch eine Vielzahl von Faktoren bedroht, u. a. durch die Verschlechterung der Lebensraumqualität aufgrund destruktiver Fischereipraktiken wie Vergiftung und Sprengungen, veränderte Flussläufe durch den Bau von Staudämmen, Konkurrenz durch exotische und eingepflanzte Karpfen und Verschmutzung aus punktuellen Quellen.
