Etymologie
Bucca (= Wange); fero (= tragen), bezieht sich vermutlich auf das große Maul, das über die Mitte des Auges hinausreicht. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlicher Atlantik: Bermuda, Südflorida (USA) und Bahamas bis zu den Kleinen Antillen und Mittelamerika (und wahrscheinlich nördliches Südamerika). Antillen, Yucatan, Belize bis Nicaragua.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 11.10.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Sie wurde im kommerziellen Aquarienfischhandel nachgewiesen, doch wird davon ausgegangen, dass das derzeitige Ausmaß der Nutzung keine wesentliche Bedrohung darstellt.
