Westlicher Indischer Ozean: Ostafrika und möglicherweise Mauritius und die Seychellen.

Status: Stand 11.1.2021:VU Vulnerable (gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Wird in der traditionellen Fischerei vor Ort gefischt und als Beifang anderer Fischereien angelandet. Der Fischereidruck in Landnähe ist in seinem bekannten Verbreitungsbereich hoch. Obwohl es ungewiss ist, ob dieser Art selbst gezielt nachgestellt wird, ist bekannt, dass ihre Flossen in Tansania einen moderaten Preis erzielen. Es kommt zu Überfischung und Zerstörung des Lebensraums (Korallenriffe) bei dieser Art. Sie kann in Gefangenschaft gehalten werden, ihr Status im Aquarienfischhandel ist jedoch unbekannt.
